Pattern formation during early embryogenesis of vertebrates

The Schoenwolf laboratory addresses the general question of how intercellular and intracellular signaling results in the generation of pattern during vertebrate embryogenesis. Although we work on a number of diverse organ rudiments and developmental events using multiple experimental organisms, our current work is focused on normal and abnormal development of the inner ear. Our research combines molecular, cellular, embryological, transgenic, imaging, and in vitro and in vivo approaches. This work is relevant for understanding birth defects, cancer, and aging.
